"Hearts"--author Willy Holtzman’s frank, poignant play inspired by his father’s experiences as a Jewish-American soldier in World War II and his struggles to cope with them after--continues Seneca Community Players' 38th season, Aug. 6-9 in the Delavan Theatre on the New York Chiropractic College campus, 2360 Rte. 89 in Seneca Falls at 8 p.m., 2 p.m. on Sunday.

"Hearts" moves back and forth between the closing days of World War II and infantryman Donald Waldman’s (played by Eric Jensen) postwar pursuit of the American Dream. He has a wife, a family, a small business and three wise-cracking, card-playing friends (John King, Jim Porto, and Jim Bero) who would walk through fire for him. He also has an eating compulsion, chronic insomnia, and bouts of depression that eventually land him on a psychiatric ward. Rather than surrender to the trauma of the past, Donald finds the courage to search back through memory to liberation day at Buchenwald and the tragic secret that has nearly devoured him. From the foxholes of Europe to the frontiers of cyberspace, "Hearts" looks at the invisible wounds of America's “Greatest Generation” with humanity and surprising humor.

The cast is rounded out by Paul Wenderlich, Evan McNear, and Susan Sinicropi.

This blunt-spoken, comedic drama is directed by Walter Wolf and produced by John King. Jason C. Parker is stage manager, Dan Papperman is technical director, and Chris King and John King Jr. are master carpenters. The set was designed by Lynn Patti, costumes were designed by Margo Schmidtgall, and sound was designed by Ralph Sinicropi. Jane Roberts handled props and Kevin Schoonover was responsible for graphic design and publicity.

Tickets are $10 in advance; $12 at the door. All veterans will be admitted for $5 at Sunday's matinee. Tickets may be purchased at WomanMade Products in Seneca Falls, Area Records and Music in Geneva, by calling 315-568-9364, and online at www.SenecaCommunityPlayers.org
